At the center of Rachel Carson’s ecological philosophy is the ethic of wonder and deep love for all of creation.
We know Rachel Carson as an environmentalist and the author of the book, Silent Spring, which is credited for the advanced the environmental movement to the global stage.
What people do not know is the that Carson pushed for something deeper. At the center of her ecological philosophy is the ethic of wonder. For her, wonder will save us from our own destruction which we have willingly initiated.
As the climate crisis escalates, it is important for us to look back to the roots of environmentalism in order for us to provide a deep answer to the question: why do we do what we do?
